African Bowl with Concentric Oval Circles and details
Pots are like data, they provide insights into the cultural lives of ancient African societies. Fragments of pottery found by archaeologists in ancient sites tell us that pots were being made as early as 7000 BC. Sculpted vessels expressing surface design acted as vehicles that addressed the transcendental needs of the community. They could be created with symbolic spirit forms and manipulations, or engraved with designs, scribbles, or incisions. Some of these pots were functional, being used for cooking, water, and washing; but others were for rituals and would be kept exclusively for that. To honour this tradition we decided to create our own bowls each filled with individual meaning and interesting design.
