Koala – Australian Wildfires

R1,200.00

These projects were reactions to the Australian wildfires that were happening at the end of 2019 and followed on into 2020. At the beginning of 2020 Australia was on fire. This was brought on by months of severe drought. Millions of hectares of land were burnt, this means many animals’ homes were destroyed, many animals died, people died, homes were lost. This catastrophe pulled on the heart strings of our students, they wanted to comment on it and to express their empathy and understanding, and share awareness. This artwork is about the thousands of koalas burnt to death or left without a habitat, in the sculpture you can see the koala’s hands have been burnt and he can no longer hold on to his habitat.
